(Post)Docs with special family circumstances

This programme is directed at all young scientists in the Cluster (PhD students and postdocs) who face additional challenges on account of their specific family circumstances (e.g. pregnancy, breastfeeding, acute nursing care of relatives etc.).

The aim of the programme is to prevent career gaps due to these family circumstances and provide the possibility to be able to continue the respective research projects.

The Cluster therefore offers funding for a student or research assistant to these young scientists. This assistant is usually named by the applicant.

Extent of funding

A student or research assistant for a period of three months with a maximum weekly working time of 19.25 hours (equal to max. 77 hours per month). The applicant and the assistant can individually determine the distribution of the working time, as long as the maximum extent of funding for a total of 231 hours is not exceeded.

Applications can be submitted at any time. The following documents are required:

  • Brief letter of motivation giving an explanation for the application
  • Application form (PDF)
  • Curriculum Vitae
    • for PhD students: include a brief description of your PhD thesis, including the current state of the project (max. 2 pages)
    • for postdocs: include a brief description of your scientific research.

Working agreement

In addition to the employment contracts of the respective Cluster institutions (Kiel University, CAU; University of Lübeck; Research Center Borstel; Max Planck Institute in Plön; University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein, UKSH; Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, MKH), the candidate will have to sign a working agreement with the Cluster as well. The agreement must include a detailed job description.
