Job description:
Cell death is essential for the removal of unwanted or potentially harmful cells and thus for
the survival and homeostasis of multicellular organisms. In apoptotic cell death, the role of
proteases (caspases) is firmly established, in contrast to non-apoptotic forms of cell death
(e.g., necroptosis). Within the project, the successful applicant (m/f) will 1. further analyze
the mechanisms and signaling pathways by which the protease HtrA2/Omi mediates
necroptosis, 2. characterize a novel, previously undescribed role of the protease ADAM17 in
necroptosis, and 3. investigate the species-specific function of caspase-8 in the regulation of
necroptosis. The successful applicant (m/f) will contribute to a more precise understanding
of the relevance of the above factors in disease by performing in vitro studies using a broad
range of technologies such as RNA interference, CRISPR/Cas9, reconstitution of knockout
cell lines, immunomagnetic isolation and proteomic/mass spectrometric analysis of death
signaling complexes, interaction studies by confocal laserscanning microscopy and Co-IP,
Western blot as well as functional assays.
The successful applicant (m/f) will work within the project "Proteolysis in the Regulation of
Non-apoptotic Cell Death". The project is embedded into the DFG Collaborative Research
Centre 877 "Proteolysis as a Regulatory Event in Pathophysiology" and will be carried out in
close collaboration with other groups of the CRC.

Your profile:
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual with a master‘s degree or
diploma and experience in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry. Knowledge of the
field of regulated necrosis and proteomic analysis of signaling complexes is a plus.

What we offer:
This is a fixed-term position for four years. Weekly working time is 65% of a full-time
position (currently 38,50 hours per week) with the possibility to prepare a PhD thesis.
Salary will be, depending on qualifications, according to the German salary scale 13 TV-L.
